Kolkata: The ruling Trinamool Congress on Saturday accused the BSF personnel of “threatening” the voters at Gitaldaha-II in Cooch Behar and trying to cause a “hindrance” in the Panchayat polling process.
“BRAZEN DISPLAY OF AUTOCRACY! BSF Personnel threatened the voters at Gitaldaha-II in Cooch Behar and tried to cause a hindrance in the polling process. The involvement of the BSF in the panchayat elections is unnecessary and unwarranted yet they are harassing our people,” the party tweeted.
“Not a single officer from the Central Forces was found on the scene to tackle the situation,” the party alleged and asked, “What happened to the TALL CLAIMS of maintaining law and order during the polls, @BJP4Bengal, @CPIM_WESTBENGAL and @INCWestBengal? ”
“Another gruesome incident occurs in Murshidabad! One of our innocent Party workers was brutally attacked, his head hit by @CPIM_WESTBENGAL goons in Raninagar. First, they demand the deployment of Central forces, which have miserably failed to maintain law and order. Then, they resort to bloodshed to hamper the process of peaceful voting, ” the party stated.
” Old habits truly die hard! It seems the Left are still in touch with their violent past. A BSF personnel was chased away by angry villagers in Gitaldaha-II in Cooch Behar after he tried to obstruct the polling process and create chaos, ” the party further alleged said, ” We CONDEMN such UNDEMOCRATIC behaviour and the sheer attempt to DISRUPT PEACE. ”
Stating that the Central Forces were deployed to maintain law and order during the panchayat elections and not “ACT AS A STOOGE for BJP”, the party said.
” Shocking and disgraceful! A BJP candidate shamelessly pours water into the ballot box in Dinhata, Cooch Behar, while the Central Forces, conveniently look the other way, ” it alleged and asked, ” Is this what they call ‘fair elections’? ”
” Their demand for deployment of Central Forces now seems like a calculated move to enable their dirty tactics. This level of blatant sabotage is an insult to democracy, ” it added.
” Blatant act of violence displayed in Hasnabad, North 24 Parganas! The unholy alliance of @INCWestBengal and @CPIM_WESTBENGAL have openly attacked our Party supporters, ” the party alleged and once again asked, ” Where are the parachuted Central forces now? ”
” Clearly, their deployment was only meant for ‘special’ and ‘selected’ cases to favour the unholy trinity in Bengal, ” the party said and questioned, ” When violence strikes, it begs the question: where were the Central Forces? ”
” In a tragic incident in Chapra, Nadia, one of our party workers was hacked to death by @INCWestBengal goons, and in the resulting confrontation, other party members were subjected to vicious assaults with lethal weapons, ” it averred.
” What good is their presence if incidents of violence and bloodshed continue unabated? ” the party asked.
Alleging that the BJP goons’ violent attack on Baroj GP candidate Utpal Jana in Kanthi, Purba Medinipur is an outrageous assault on our democracy, it said, ” Central forces deployed to protect innocents have become mere spectators, shamelessly failing in their duty. We vehemently condemn this barbaric act and demand justice for our brave worker. ”
” @BJP4Bengal’s desperation is on full display!In Baidyapur Gram Panchayat, Habibpur block, Malda, BJP leader Malai Roy openly distributed sarees in a disgraceful attempt to manipulate the electoral outcome by buying votes. This is an insult to the voters and undermines the integrity of the electoral system, ” the party stated.
” Meanwhile, our party workers at different places have been ATTACKED, WOUNDED, and KILLED. Our leader, @DrShashiPanja, points out how the so-called guardians of peace have faltered to protect the rights of the people. Under the close supervision of the Central Forces, the death toll keeps mounting! A devastating bomb attack claimed the life of our party worker in Manikchak, Malda,” the party alleged.
“In Narayanpur-I Gram Panchayat of Nadia, @CPIM_WESTBENGAL hooligans opened fire on our candidate, Hasina Sultana’s husband. They hurled crude, country-made bombs at our workers moments before the start of the elections. Despite the deployment of Central Forces, our worker from Salbari-II Gram Panchayat of Jalpaiguri was critically wounded by @BJP4Bengal goons,” it claimed.
Alleging that the recent incidents of violence not only raise serious doubts about the competence and preparedness of the Central Forces but also expose the hollowness of the claims made by the BJP, CPI(M), and @INCWestBengal about their role in ensuring peaceful elections, ” the party said, “One of our Panchayat candidates from Jhargram, Shyamali Sabar, was ASSAULTED and given DEATH THREATS by @CPIM_WESTBENGAL miscreants last night.”
“The Central Forces FAILED to protect her from such hooligans.” This not only proves their INCOMPETENCE but also EXPOSES the hollow claims by the @BJP4Bengal, @INCWestBengal, and the CPI(M) of maintaining peace during the elections,” the party further claimed.
