Tripura: Four people convicted for crimes against women

Agartala: The West Tripura District and Session Court on Tuesday awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to a clerk of the state health department for raping a woman, while in another case, the parents-in-law and husband of a woman were convicted of 10 years jail for abatement of the suicide of a housewife.

Additional public prosecutor Arabindo Deb said Ratan Debnath, husband of the deceased Jhuma Debnath, father-in-law Manindra Debnath, and mother-in-law Manda Debnath in Koroimura area under Ranirbazar police station in eastern Agartala were convicted for abetting Jhuma to commit suicide in March 2014.

The Court has also sentenced health department employee Uttam Kumar Debbarma to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a girl in the Bodhjungnagar area of the city in 2019.
