Washington: US President-elect Donald Trump congratulated Mike Johnson on being reelected House Speaker on Friday.
“Congratulations to Speaker Mike Johnson for receiving an unprecedented Vote of Confidence in Congress,” Trump said on Truth Social.
Earlier in the day, Johnson, the incumbent Speaker of the US House of Representatives, secured enough votes on the second ballot to keep his position.
Trump expressed confidence that Johnson would be a “Great Speaker ” and that his election would benefit America.
The US House Speaker election took place on the first day of the 119th Congress. The Republicans have a razor-thin majority in the House with 220 seats, while the Democrats have 215 seats.
