Washington: The US House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a stopgap bill proposed by Republican lawmakers to fund the federal government until September 30 and to avoid a shutdown.

The GOP legislation was passed by a majority vote.

According to the Republicans, the bill will provide funding for core federal services without an increase in federal spending. At the same time, the bill includes a $13 billion decrease in non-defence spending while also giving $485 million to boost deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Democrats previously took issue with several spending cuts in the bill, as well as a lack of funding directives for various programs and priorities.
