#WorldHealthAssembly: 124 nations sign resolution demanding probe into coronavirus pandemic

Geneva: A global coalition of 124-nations back Australia and European Union call for an independent inquiry into the coronavirus in a draft resolution to put to the World Health Assembly (WHA) on May 19, 2020.

Draft resolution proposed by Albania, Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, the African Group and its Member States, the European Union and its Member States, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The resolution to be presented to WHA demands that the Director-General of  World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus initiates at the earliest a stepwise process of impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation’ of the international response to the pandemic, the actions of WHO and its timeline of the pandemic.

WHO’s own role will also allow be under scrutiny for the alleged slowness in responding to the pandemic, and its praise for China’s response despite Beijing’s concealment of the virus during its crucial early weeks and punishment of whistleblowing doctors.
