3 crore new houses proposed under PM Awas Yojana

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced the construction of 3 crore additional houses in rural and urban areas under the PM Awas Yojana.

Presenting the Union Budget 2024-25, the FM announced the inclusion of one crore urban poor and middle-class families under the PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0.

She said that under the ‘Urban Development: Cities as Growth Hubs’, 14 large cities with a population of above 30 lakh will have Transit Oriented Development Plans.

She also proposed setting up of ‘rental housing’ for industrial workers which will be facilitated under the Public-Private-Partnership mode.

She also announced that 100 large cities will get new water supply, sewage treatment and solid waste management projects and services.

Sitharaman said that the government will give special attention to energy security and promote the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana under which more than 1.28 crore registrations and 14 lakh applications have been received.
