Culprit Harendra Jangid was arrested by the local police in Rajasthan’s Ajmer in the case of him blackmailing a woman with indecent photographs on Instagram and extorting Rs. 3.75 lakhs and gold jewellery worth 4 lakhs and interrogation is going on. The extorted jewellery is found by the police.
According to police station in-charge Dr. Ravish Samariya, the culprit made a fake ID on Instagram and sent vulgar messages and videos to the victim, her daughter and her family members and blackmailed them of defaming them. At the start, it was believed that the culprit had used a fake ID in order to commit the crime and when assistance from the Instagram server was taken, the 21-year-old Harendra was identified.
It is noteworthy that a case of online fraud and blackmailing was registered against Jangid earlier as well, back in April 2021, in Udaipur’s Pratapnagar police station.
As per SP Chunaram Jat’s instructions, an investigating team was formed under the leadership of CO Chhavi Sharma in order to nab the culprit. Investigation is also being made to get hold of Jangid’s accomplices as well.
According to the victim’s report, Harendra was an Instagram friend of hers and she informed that on 6th July, an unknown youth had sent her a vulgar photo on Instagram and threatened her of making it public if his demands were not fulfilled. After which the lady blocked the ID but received the photo from another ID and was mentally tortured. When the culprit didn’t receive a reply, he sent the photo to the victim’s elder daughter on Instagram and the blackmailing continued.
In the wake of the case and the arrest made, Christianganj police station in-charge, Dr. Ravish Samariya is spreading awareness among people to ward-off the dangers of cyber-crime and online frauds.
He said that in order to stay safe, people are required to be aware, create strong social media passwords, not to link accounts with other social media accounts, not to click unknown fake links, not to accept friend requests from strangers, to log out of accounts after use and not to share your mobile phone details with anyone.
