Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada police have arrested brother of one of the accused in Praveen Nettaru murder case for allegedly issuing a death threat on Prashant Rai, a BJP worker.

The accused has been identified as 21-year-old Abdul Safreed.

Rai alleged that Safreed had telephoned him during which the latter abused him and threatened to kill him.

Safreed’s father Ibrahim used to work as a cleaner in the chicken shop of Nettaru.

Tension had prevailed at the police station when Rai, along with a large number of Hindu activists, went to register a case against Safreed on Saturday.

Flaying the alleged threat on Rai by SDPI workers, Dakshina Kannada BJP President Sudarshan Moodbidri urged the police to take appropriate action and keep a watch on SDPI’s activities as it is accused of creating chaos in the country as per NIA investigation.

The SDPI leaders are involved in various acts of treachery and riots in various parts of the country, he stated.

BJP youth leader Nettaru was murdered near his chicken shop at Bellare on July 26. In August, the agency had taken into custody five accused in the case. The accused taken into custody are Naufal (28), Sainul Abid (22), Mohammed Syed (32), Abdul Basheer (29) and Riyaz (27).
