Srinagar: Body of a six-year-old girl which was taken away by a leopard from the border area of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been found, officials said.

This is the fourth such incident in Uri in the last over three months.

The body of Munizah was found late Friday, hours after she was picked by a leopard and taken along in a forest area in Gawashar of Bijhama Uri.

“After the child was taken away, the locals and officials searched the area for several hours and after strenuous efforts, her remains were found,” a police official said.

Munizah became the fourth child in Uri to be targeted by leopard.

On June 11, a leopard killed a child in Trikangan village of Uri. A day later another child was killed by a leopard. One June 14, another minor was killed in the same area.

Wildlife officials later claimed the man eater leopard – responsible for killing three children in June – was identified and killed on July 7 in Uri after a series of attempts to capture the animal alive failed.

Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department said this year eight people, including six children have been killed by the wild animals.

Four such deaths have been reported from Baramulla, three from Anantnag, while one was reported from Kupwara district.
