Srinagar experiences first coldest night of season

Srinagar: Srinagar experiences seasons first below freezing point night as the temperature dips to minus 0.8 degree Celsius while the tourist hotspot of Pahalgam was the coldest place in Kashmir valley with a low of minus 4.8 degree Celsius recorded on Wednesday, officials said.

Meteorological Department forecast of mainly dry weather to continue over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

Kashmir Weather, a private weather observer, has forecast dry and mostly sunny weather in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh during the next 10 days.

The night temperature in Srinagar went below the freezing point for the first time this season, with the mercury settling at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius recorded overnight against the 0.2 degree Celsius recorded a day ago.

The cold weather conditions continue to prevail in Srinagar and its adjoining areas with sun appearing coupled with mild fog surrounded by. However, the maximum temperature was 1.2 degree Celsius above normal against the 13.8 degree Celsius recorded on Wednesday during this period of the season.

Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir valley with a minimum temperature plunged to minus 4.8 degrees Celsius recorded on Wednesday against the minus 4.2 degree Celsius recorded a day ago.

The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered the temperature at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius which was 0.3 degrees down from the previous night.

The night temperatures in other parts of the Valley also settled below freezing point with the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara registered at minus 2.9 degrees Celsius, Qazigund at minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, Qazigund had a low of minus 1.6 degree Celsius and Kukernag recorded a low of 0.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
