Thiruvananthapuram: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties worth Rs 95.25 lakh of Dr SM CSI Medical College, Karakonam, in connection with a cheating case.

The ED provisionally attached movable properties worth Rs 95.25 lakh in the form of balance in the bank account of Dr SM CSI Medical College as an equivalent amount of proceeds of crime in the case of cheating of parents in the pretext of giving admission to their wards to MBBS/PG seats, an ED press release said on Tuesday.

The ED initiated money laundering investigation on the basis of multiple FIRs registered by Vellarada Police Station and Crime Branch Police in Kerala.

Investigation by ED revealed that amounts were collected from parents in the pretext giving admission to their wards to the CSI Medical College. However, admissions were not given even after taking money.

Further, part of the said cash was used for developing infrastructure of the college, and the remaining amount was diverted to the parent organisation i.e. South Kerala Diocese (SKD).

It was also found that Dr. Bennet Abraham and Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam had by commission of scheduled offence, obtained the proceeds of crime (POC) totalling to Rs 95.25 lakh.

However, as the proceeds of crime generated by Dr Bennet Abraham and Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam through the college was exhausted and was not available for attachment, an amount to the extent of Rs 95.25 lakh from the bank account of the college was provisionally attached as an equivalent value of the proceeds of crime vide PAO dated 22.11.2022, it added.
