On Sunday, 11th December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Mopa Greenfield International Airport, which is also the second international airport to be serving the state of Goa. It is noteworthy that the newly inaugurated airport at Mopa will be called the Manohar International Airport, in honour of the Late Manohar Parrikar.

Following the opening of the airport, Savio Rodrigues, BJP Goa Spokesperson, took to social media, and via a video message, presented a humble request to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Goa Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, and Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Starting off, Savio said that it was an honour to learn that the Mopa International Airport has been named after one of Goa’s most devoted and dedicated leaders.

Adding, the BJP Spokesperson said, “However, I have a humble suggestion to make. Mr. Manohar Parrikar has been revered and respected not only in Goa, not only in India, but all over the world as ‘Manohar Parrikar’. Therefore, the most appropriate name for the Mopa airport, instead of being called the Manohar International Airport, should be called the ‘Manohar Parrikar International Airport’”.

“That would be a tribute to Manohar Parrikar, who has been a leader, and an inspiration to many people in Goa, in India, and in other parts of the world”, added Rodrigues.
