GSCPCR and Fr. Agnel College of Arts and Commerce organize lecture on ‘Strengthening Child Protection Mechanisms’

The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Counselling Cell and Gender Champion Cell of Fr. Agnel College organized a lecture on ‘Strengthening Child Protection Mechanisms in Goa’ on 27th January, 2023 at Fr. Agnel College, Pilar. 104 students participated in the outreach initiative by the Commission, aiming to reach out to students to strengthen child protection in Goa, amidst surge in crimes of various forms against children in the recent times.

The students were briefed by Peter F. Borges, Chairperson, GSCPCR about child protection services and the systems available to provide a safe and secured environments for all round development of the children. Information was also provided on multiple legal provisions, policies, government schemes and programmes adopted by government for protection, safety and welfare of the children and how the students can play role to strengthen child protection for children who are being denied of their rights to survival, development, participation and protection.

“Everyone in the society and all adult citizens have the responsibility to provide care and protection to children as they are the assets and future leaders of the society. Educational institutions are extremely important platforms to promote child rights. Students should play a significant role in promoting awareness on child rights and protection, besides reporting matters in the event of any violation of the rights of children”, said Peter F. Borges.

He further added, “Child protection services aim to bring down abuse, violence and exploitation against children and even prevent with the right intervention at the right time. You have a major role in disseminating information about child rights and their protection, besides reporting any violation. Every single child deserves to be protected against any harm, danger and has a right for safe and secure childhood”.

The session was compered by Diane Cardoz (Student) and coordinated by Prof. Savio Falleiro (Principal), Asst. Prof. Sonia Xavier and Irene George (College Counsellor).
