While addressing a public rally in Karnataka’s Belagavi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Centre has now resolved the long dispute between Goa and Karnataka over the Mhadei River and has allowed the diversion of Mhadei to Karnataka to quench the thirst of the farmers.

“I congratulate Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai and BJP leaders for taking the BJP Goa government along in resolving the Mhadei issue”, added Shah.

This statement made by Shah has created a major uproar in the state of Goa as the Mhadei River is the lifeline of the state. Reacting to the same, BJP leader from Velim, Savio Rodrigues, took to Twitter and said, “I am totally shocked by the statement made by Home Minister Amit Shah on the Mhadei River issue being resolved between the Karnataka and Goa governments, both being BJP-governed because the Goa government is fighting the matter in the Supreme Court and appealed to the Centre to withdraw the DPR.

“Who resolved this concern & when?”, questioned Rodrigues.

In another tweet, he questioned whether the Goa and the Karnataka governments reach an out of Supreme Court settlement to the issue of the Mhadei River, because if the matter of the Tribunal Award is still in the Supreme Court, how can the matter be resolved. He added how the Goa government had told people that it was fighting the matter in the apex court and would not relent.

Emphasising on the Goa Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant’s statements related to the dispute, Savio mentioned how the Goa CM had told the media that the discussions with Amit Shah and the ministers from Goa were ‘positive’.

“I was sure then that it was positive, but now it seems positive for Karnataka because Amit Shah’s statement tells a completely different story”, he added and questioned as to when the issue was resolved.
