On Sunday, 5th February, a big gathering of Hindu organizations took place in the country’s financial capital, Mumbai. The organizations protested against the venomous phenomena of love jihad and land jihad under the ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha’. Keeping an eye on the protest demonstration, the Supreme Court had directed the coalition Shiv Sena-BJP government of Maharashtra to ensure that no hate speeches were made against any religion or community during the rally.

Prior to this, more than 40 protest demonstrations have been organized all over the state of Maharashtra, and the Hindu organizations are demanding the framing of laws against love jihad, land jihad, and the religious conversion rackets. The BJP had shown support for the rally held on Sunday.

On the other hand, the rally was labelled as the BJP’s conspiracy by the opposition, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had said that this is not a rally to show the anger of the Hindus, but the BJP’s rally. He added that despite the BJP being in power at the Centre and in Maharashtra, if love jihad and religious conversions are taking place, then it is the government’s failure.

Maharashtra Congress Spokesman, Sachin Sawant, said that Hindutvawadis are organizing the protest rally at such a time, when a Hindutvawadi party is in power at the Centre and in the state. “Not Hindus, but the BJP government is in danger”, expressed Sawant.

The Hindu organizations have organized similar rallies in Nagpur, Amravati, Pune, Vardha, Buldhana, Shirdi, Satara, and in more than 40 places all over Maharashtra till now.
