Nagaland CM kicks off poll campaign

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has said that the contribution of women in the society is tremendous and equal opportunity needs to be given to women in the present society to represent the society in the legislation.

Kicking off the election campaign for the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for party’s candidate Salhoutuonuo Kruse for the Western Angami Assembly Constituency (A/C), Rio said that the NDPP has fielded two women candidates, Salhoutuonuo Kruse for the Western Angami Assembly Constituency under Kohima district and Hekani Jakhalu for Dimapur- III Assembly Constituency under Dimapur district for the February 27 Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections, as there was not a single candidate representing any A/C in Nagaland till today.

Rio hoped that the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly would be epoch-making if the women candidates win this time.

He said the duo have been awarded the party ticket in pursuance of the commitment and policy of the NDPP towards women empowerment and gender equality.
