Agartala: Ruling out the much talking proposition of a hung assembly in Tripura, CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday reaffirmed that BJP will lose the election and a progressive government of the alliance of Left Front, Congress and others would be formed on March 2.

Addressing the media he said, “The mode of the public speaks of a certainty of change of government and it is clear whoever will form the government would be with a comfortable majority. BJP bulldozed democracy and constitutional rights of the people of Tripura, which everyone wants to restore.”

The personal liberty, rule of law, and peaceful co-existence of the communities and religions have no alternative, Yechury said, adding, “They made tall promises of development like previous elections to make the people fool. But BJP’s failure in all fronts and false claims of development would be reflected in the EVMs this time provided Election Commission of India must ensure a free and fair election.”

A CPI-M delegation met Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi on Friday with complaints of continuous violence, terror tactics, open threat by BJP candidates to the opposition voters not to go for casting vote, mobilisation of money power, and partial role of a section of police and election officials in favour of the ruling party and sought immediate action.

“We are apprehensive, at the eleventh hour, BJP miscreants would unleash a reign of terror to spoil the spirit of election like previous elections in Tripura under BJP’s rule unless ECI reacts promptly from now. The party in power is using central and state machinery to manipulate the elections,” he alleged.

He claimed democratic secular parties in Tripura were forced to come together following pressures from the people to defeat the undemocratic rule of BJP.

Tripura people desperately want to establish the rule of law and restore peace and democracy in the state.
