Sukma (Chhattisgarh): An assistant sub-inspector was among three District Reserve Guard personnel martyred during an encounter that also injured a constable on Saturday even as law-enforcement authorities claimed that about half-a-dozen Naxals were neutralised during the approximately half-hour-long gun battle within this restive district of Left-wing extremism-affected Bastar division.

“A detachment comprising 50 personnel of the CRPF and DRG set out from Jagargunda Police Station at about 0700 hrs for patrolling Kuded road. The rebels staged an ambush at roughly 0830 hrs. The deceased were identified as ASI Ramuram Nag, Constable Kunjam Joga and Assistant Const Vanjam Bheema. During a search, heavy patches of blood were observed and it is suspected that the Maoists carried away the bodies of their fallen comrades. One AK-47 and a mortar were looted by the ultras,” SP Sunil Sharma confirmed.
