Odisha BJP fields former Yuva Morcha President Tankadhar Tripathy for Jharsuguda Assembly by-poll

Bhubaneswar: Former President of the Odisha BJP Yuva Morcha Tankadhar Tripathy has been chosen as the party candidate for May 10 by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency.

BJP announced the name of Tripathy late on Wednesday night.

The by-election was necessitated after Health Minister Naba Kishore Das who represented the constituency was shot dead by Police ASI Gopal Das at Brajrajnagar on January 29 last.

BJD and Congress have already announced their candidates for the by-election.

BJD Supremo Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik earlier on March 31 last announced the name of Dipali Das, the daughter of Naba Kishore Das as a party candidate for the by-election.

Meanwhile, the gazette notification for the by-election was made on Thursday.

As per the notification, April 20, 2023, is the last date for nomination, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be made on April 21 and April 24 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

Polling will be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 13. The election process will be completed by May 15 next.
