Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa’s daughter Raja Nandini joined BJP here on Wednesday, but her father expressed shock and called it an unfortunate development.
“I am a politician with a set of principles … I was hurt when I came to know my daughter was approaching BJP leaders to join the BJP. She should not have done this as the daughter of a true Congressman. She has back stabbed me,” he told reporters in Shivamogga.
Thimappa accused local BJP leaders including former minister Harthalu Halappa of enticing Nandini into the BJP fold.
Nandini took this step after the Congress did not give ticket to her despite an appeal made by Thimappa to the party leadership.
“I had asked AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge to give Nandini a ticket to contest from Sagar, but the party decided to field former MLA Belur Gopalkrishna. I will try to convince her (to return),” he said.
