BSF jawan killed, two AR jawans injured in Manipur

Imphal: A BSF personnel died while two jawans of Assam Rifles were injured in a gun battle with insurgents at Serou, Kakching district on Tuesday.

The injured were evacuated by a military helicopter to the headquarters of Assam Rifles at Imphal.

Army official said extensive area domination operations by Assam Rifles, BSF Manipur and Police were undertaken at Sugnu and Serou . Intermittent firing between Security Forces and group of insurgents took place throughout night of June 5 and 6. Security Forces effectively retaliated to the fire.

One BSF Jawan sustained fatal injuries while two Assam Rifles personnel sustained Gun Shot Wounds (GSW) in general area Serou. Injured Assam Rifles personnel Air evacuated to Mantripukhri. Search operations in progress.

Sugnu was relatively peaceful even after the break out of clashes between two communities in Manipur however since May 28 last heavily armed persons burnt the residence of K Ranjit MLA and other houses belonging to another community. All houses at Serou have been burnt completely and people were taking refuge at Sugnu.

In the aftermath of the burning of houses, people of the area started attacking the camp of a Kuki militant group under Suspension of Operations (SOO).
