The NCP group led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, has informed the Election Commission (EC) that he has been elected as the party’s National President. A statement released by the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP, on Wednesday, July 5, said, “The EC has been informed through an affidavit that he was elected NCP chief through a resolution dated June 30th, 2023, signed by an overwhelming majority of the members of the NCP, both from the legislative and organizational wings”.

“Praful Patel continues to be the NCP Working President”, the release further mentioned, adding, “The NCP has also decided to appoint Ajit Pawar as the leader of NCP Legislative Party in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, and this decision was also ratified by an overwhelming majority of NCP MLAs”.

It was on Sunday, July 2, that the NCP, which was founded by Sharad Pawar in the year 1999, witnessed a split, when Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government in Maharashtra, and claimed support of more than 40 MLAs.
