New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday held a meeting with
the leaders of the state unit of Maharashtra, in presence of former chief Rahul Gandhi at the party headquarters here.

During the meeting, they discussed on strengthening the party in Maharashtra, and the recent political developments in the state, sources said.

Earlier this month, senior NCP leader Ajit Power and several others were sworn-in as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Ministers respectively following their support to the government-led by

CM Eknath Shinde. Ajit’s rebellion has caused a vertical split in the NCP.

“BJP has done the work of hurting the self-respect of Maharashtra by using its ‘washing machine’. Congress will give a befitting reply to this political fraud,” Kharge said in an apparent reference to the recent political developments in Maharashtra, while referring to the meeting chaired by him with the state unit of the party.

He added,”We will further strengthen the glorious relationship between Maharashtra and Congress.”

Meanwhile, Rahul in a social media post wrote, “Today, a meeting was held with Maharashtra Congress leaders under the leadership of Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge ji. Maharashtra is the bastion of the Congress and our focus is on strengthening the party, and raising the voice of the people.”
