On Thursday, July 20, the jailed Dera Sachha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was granted a 30-day parole once again. He is currently undergoing a sentence for 10 years each in two rape cases, and life imprisonment in two separate murder cases of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, and journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati.

Apart from this, he is also facing four more criminal cases, which are three cases of sacrilege in Punjab, and a CBI case, related to the castration of his disciples.

While lodged in Haryana’s Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail, in 2022, Gurmeet had got a 91-day parole, and later in October, he had again come out on a 40-day parole, on which he had even conducted online satsangs, which were attended even by ministers. A song was also released by him on Diwali. In March 2023 too, he was granted parole.

Convicted of such grave charges, Gurmeet Singh manages to come out on parole time and again, and this has sparked a controversy among the people of the country, wherein the government is questioned as to how can a rapist and a murderer be allowed to roam scot-free again and again. DCW Chairperson, Swati Maliwal, has also written to PM Modi in protest of Gurmeet being granted the parole.
