Police destroy over 770-kg seized contraband in J&K’s Udhampur

Jammu: Police have destroyed over 770-kg of seized contraband on Saturday in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Dr Vinod Kumar said that the District Drug Destruction Committee headed by him and comprising of Anwar Ul Haq, Additional SP Udhampur, Gurmeet Singh DySP Hqrs Udhampur and Darshan Singh Senior PO Udhampur, conducted the destruction of seized contraband of poppy straw through incineration in M/S Anmol Healthcare Rakh Rara, Swankha Morh, Vijaypur, Samba.

During incineration, the SSP said that 771.93 Kgs of poppy straw, has been incinerated by following all the codal formalities.

The destruction was carried out by incineration in a controlled manner as provided under rules to avoid any harm to the environment,” he said.

The top cop added that in the entire process, Executive Magistrate Mohd. Saleem (NT Roun) and Kuldeep Bhan, Divisional Officer PCC Jammu also accompanied the drug destruction committee.

Before this the seized contraband is checked, weighted and tallied with the record, he added and said, “the entire process, right from godown upto incinerator was duly videographed and kept under proper security.”

Notably, huge quantity of the seized contraband substance has been destroyed under section 52-A of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
