Portion of Srirangam Temple east entry tower wall collapses, none hurt

Chennai: A portion of the east entry tower wall of the world famous Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple collapsed early on Saturday morning.

None was hurt in the incident which took place around 0200 hrs, reports received
here said.

Repair works were on in the first and second level compound walls of the east side
entrance after it had developed cracks, when a portion of the first level wall collapsed.

The incident has caused flutter among the devotees who had thronged the temple
right from early this morning as Saturday is considered auspicious for Vaishnavite
Gods.

Efforts are on to remove the concrete debris from the spot.

Srirangam is the Number one temple in the 108 Divyadesam Vaishnavite temples
dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ranganathar
(a form of Vishnu), at Srirangam in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu.
