Rijiju inaugurates 100-ft high-mast national flag podium in Arunachal’s Dipa village

Itanagar: Union Minister for Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju inaugurated a 100-ft high-mast national flag podium at Dipa village in Lower Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, to honour the freedom fighters and unsung heroes of Dipa village as a part of ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign to mark the conclusion of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

It may be mentioned that the Indian tri-colour was hoisted for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh at Dipa village in 1947. The purpose of the MMMD campaign, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the broadcast of his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, is to salute the brave freedom fighters and heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country.

“Historic Day for Arunachal Pradesh as a 100-ft-high national flag podium was inaugurated at Dipa to honour the Freedom Fighters. The Indian Tri-color was hoisted for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh at Dipa village in 1947,” Rijiju wrote on Twitter on Sunday, soon after launching the high-mast national flag podium.

The programme was graced by MLAs Kardo Nyigyor and Kento Rina, Lower Siang Zilla Parishad Chairperson Marpe Nguba and her counterpart from Leparada, Nyabi Jini Dirchi, Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner Marto Riba, and district Superintendent of Police G Dangjangu, among others.

During the event, the gathering also joined the nation in listening to the 104th episode of PM Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme, official sources said.
