Shimla: Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday questioned the state government to explain the source behind the mining mafia’s emboldened move to allegedly stop police from taking action against illegal mining at Lanj in Kangra.

In a press statement issued here, Thakur said that this is not the first case when the mining mafia has misbehaved with the police, as similar incidents are coming to light from different parts of the state.

Due to mining, the drinking water and irrigation projects are being harmed, increasing threat to the fields, crops and houses of the local people, he said.

While questioning as to who is encouraging these mining mafias that they are not desisting from getting into trouble with the police, he demanded strong action against mafia to restore the morale of police force.

The Leader of Opposition demanded that the Chief Minister should tighten his grip on the mafia as well as the people who are abetting them.
