Hyderabad: Union Minister of Tourism & Culture and Telangana BJP President, G Kishan Reddy, announced on Saturday that the Union Department of Culture would celebrate Telangana Liberation Day with grandeur at the Parade Grounds in Hyderabad on September 17.

Addressing the media, Reddy emphasised that the national flag would be raised on September 17 to commemorate the liberation of Hyderabad from the Nizam’s autocratic rule.

Reddy expressed his regret that, despite the historical significance of this day, Telangana Liberation Day has not been officially celebrated in Telangana for the past 75 years. He noted that the BJP has been advocating for the official recognition and organisation of Telangana liberation celebrations for the last 25 years.

However, Reddy pointed out that successive governments, including the previous Congress government and the current BRS government, have shown little interest in organising these celebrations. The BJP, he asserted, remains unwavering in its commitment to this cause.

Last year, as part of the Azadika Amrit Mahotsav, the BJP officially organised ‘Telangana Liberation Celebrations’ under the Central Government’s auspices, marking the 75th anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hoisting the Tricolour flag. Reddy also highlighted that Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, presided over these celebrations in Hyderabad.

Reddy questioned why the BRS party, which advocated for Telangana liberation during the state’s movement, did not prioritise these celebrations during its nine-year rule under Chief Minister KCR. He urged Chief Minister KCR to officially organise these festivities if he genuinely cares about the state.

Reddy criticised the Congress party and BRS for allegedly attempting to divert attention from the celebrations organised by the Central Government and satisfy the Majlis party. He called upon the Telangana community to come together and commemorate this significant event in the nation’s history.

Reddy appealed to the people to actively participate in the programmes organised by the central government to ensure their success.
