Ladakh : Army establishes first-ever BSNL BTS at forward posts of highest battlefield

Srinagar: Army in collaboration with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have established the first-ever Base Transceiver Station (BTS) at the forward posts of Siachen in Ladakh, the world’s highest battlefield.

The Army on Thursday said the BSNL BTS was established on October 6 to extend mobile communication for the soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet.

Indian Army’s Leh based Fire and Fury Corps in a post on X announced the establishment of the first ever BTS in the highest battlefield.

“#Siachen Warriors in collaboration with BSNL established first ever BSNL BTS at forward posts of the highest battlefield on 06 October to extend mobile communication for the soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet,” Fire and Fury Corps which is under the command of the Army’s Northern Command, said on X.

The Army also shared pictures from the site showing Siachen Warriors installing the towers in the snowbound area.

The BTS is a fixed radio transceiver in any mobile network and consists of a tower, antennas, minilink/ optical fiber cable (OFC), BTS equipment, power plant and battery bank, automatic voltage regulator, sub station, intermediate frequency cables and OFC.
