Gangtok: Chief Minister PS Tamang has assured a representative body of the Christian community in Sikkim that he would look into the issues being faced by them.

“Your one vote in 2019 has enabled all the religious communities here to celebrate their religious festivals freely. During the earlier government, only those associated with it used to be invited to the programmes of the community.

“You were hesitant lest those who matter in authority, get offended. The leaders never even attended your festivals. But we are a part of a secular country. We must attend such festivals,” Tamang said during his speech at the Christmas Festival 2023, in Namchi of South Sikkim district.

Tamang said people can now distinguish between the 25 years of the previous (Sikkim Democratic Front) government and four and a half of the current dispensation of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha. “If all the religions flourish, the country will advance,’ added the Chief Minister.

The All Sikkim Christian Organisation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, who promised to look into the issues raised by them.
