Complete ban on laser shows in and around Kolkata Airport

Kolkata: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr PC have been clamped in and around Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport by the local administration after the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate received complaints from the airport authorities that pilots are having problems during take off and touchdown following laser beams flashing around.

The prohibitory orders, including that of laser beams show, is effective from Wednesday in and around 8 police stations limits in North 24 Parganas upto June 29, official sources said on Thursday.

Any use of powerful focus of sky-pointing laser beams has been banned in the next two
months now, sources added.

A notice from Airport police station said, ” The West Bengal Police have banned the use of laser beams, laser lights, and laser light shows in vast areas around Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. It is a punishable offence. Please refrain from doing such activities. ”

The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI) received complaints from the pilots and crew of inbound flights that laser beams from hotels and banquets were posing threats to aircraft during landing and take off.

“It is necessary to take immediate measures in this regard to prevent danger to human life and safety of aircraft and to contain nuisance in the matter of laser beams in and around the NSCBI airport, ” the order said.
