Tehran: Iran’s Interim President Mohammad Mokhber on Monday emphasized the need to use the untapped capacities of his country and Oman, especially in the economic sector, to significantly boost bilateral trade.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad al-Busaidi in the Iranian capital Tehran, while elaborating on the ways to bolster trade between the two countries, according to a statement published on the website of the Iranian president’s office.

Mokhber described the relationship between Iran and Oman as “historical and brotherly,” noting that by exploiting the unused capacities of both countries, bilateral trade could experience a several-fold growth compared to its current level.

He stressed that Iran would continue its strategy of expanding all-out cooperation with Oman, which was pursued by the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during his tenure.

Mokhber expressed hope that new measures would be taken to improve bilateral relations across various sectors, driven by the determination of high-ranking Iranian and Omani officials.

The Omani foreign minister, for his part, extended condolences over the tragic deaths of Raisi and his entourage, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a helicopter crash on May 19 in northwestern Iran.

He said relations between Oman and Iran were “strategic and important,” voicing his country’s willingness to expand and diversify its ties with Iran.
