PM Modi meets President Murmu, submits resignation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers.

“The President has accepted the resignation and requested Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new government assumes office,” a Rashtrapathi Bhavan communique said.

Modi is likely to be sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on June 8th evening.

The BJP and its allies has managed to cross the 272 majority mark by winning 292 seats. The BJP has won 240 seats in the Lok Sabha election.

Meanwhile, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is scheduled to meet in Delhi today, a day after the Lok Sabha Election results was announced.

The meeting will be Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to chalk out the next strategy in the government formation, as the BJP fell short to get the majority number of 272.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be present at the NDA meet.
