New Delhi: The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 will be taken up for consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said.

He alleged that the opposition is doing “appeasement politics” on the Bill.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Rijiju, said it has been decided to have eight hours of discussion in the lower house on the Bill.

He added that during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, it has been agreed that the time of the discussion may be increased.

The Minister said the appropriate time for the Bill’s introduction will be decided after consultations within the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) and discussion with the Speaker.

He added that the government is ready to answer all the questions over the bill, and alleged that opposition parties are against the legislation due to their “appeasement politics”.

The Opposition MPs however have dubbed the bill “unconstitutional” and vowed to resist its tabling in the Parliament. On January 27, a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) led by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal had cleared the Waqf Amendment Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha in August last year.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, seeks to introduce reforms such as digitization, enhanced audits, transparency, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied properties.

The contentious Bill was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in August 2024. The panel’s 655-page report was submitted to both houses of Parliament earlier this month amid protests by opposition and Muslim groups.
