Senior J&K officer among 3 killed in Pak shelling

Srinagar: Additional District Commissioner of Rajouri, Raj Kumar Thapa and two other civilians were killed in heavy cross-border shelling by Pakistan.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the death of the senior officer saying the residence of the officer was hit by Pakistani shelling as they targeted Rajouri town.

“Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services,” Omar said on X.

“Just yesterday he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district & attended the online meeting I chaired. Today the residence of the officer was hit by Pak shelling as they targeted Rajouri town killing our Additional District Development Commissioner Sh Raj Kumar Thappa. I’ve no words to express my shock & sadness at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.

There has been a sharp escalation in cross-border shelling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
