Chennai: In a big boost to industrial development, th Tamil Nadu government today signed a MoU with the Japan headquartered Hikoki Power tools India to set up a new manufacturing facility involving an investment of Rs 700 crore.
This significant investment reflected Tamil Nadu’s rapid rise in the high-value manufacturing sector as the State moved decisively from assembly into Advanced Manufacturing.
Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion and Guidance Bureau signed the MoU with the Japanease firm in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin at the State Secreretariat.
Hikoki Power Tools India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Koki Holdings, will set up its new manufacturing facility at Mahindra World City in neighbouring Chengalpattu district and would offer more than 1,300 jobs directly and indirectly.
An official release here said the Tamil Nadu government led by Mr Stalin, which has emerged as the second largest economy in the country, has been taking various steps to achieve the ambitious goal of making TN USD one Trillion economy by 2030 by attracting large scale investments and numerous job opportunities, especially for women, a point which was appreciated by the Centre in its 2024-25 Economic Survey.
In line with this commitment, the State government today signed a MoU with Koki Holdings of Japan which has manufacturing facilities in countries like Germany, China, USA and India, committing an investment of Rs 700 crore.
Its subsidiary Hikoki Power Tools India has its head office in Bengaluru with more than 15 dealerships and over 500 distributors and 100 service Centre, it said.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Raaja, who was also present at the MoU signing ceremony, said Hikoki has been a trusted leader in India’s power tools industry since 1996, with an impressive sales footprint.
Today they have chosen Mahindra World City, Chengalpattu, to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with a investment of Rs 700 crore and offering more than 1,300 jobs.
In a post on X, Dr Raaja wrote “Delighted to welcome Hikoki Power Tools India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Koki Holdings, to their new home in Tamil Nadu !”.
“Today, in the presence of Honourable @CMOTamilNadu Thiru. @MKStalin avargal, we signed an MoU with Hikoki for a proposed investment of Rs. 700 crore enabling 1,302 #JobsForTN”, he said.
The Minister said “Hikoki has been a trusted leader in India’s power tools industry since 1996, with an impressive sales footprint. Now, they’ve chosen Mahindra World City, Chengalpattu, to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.”
“This is yet another investment which reflects Tamil Nadu’s rapid rise in the high-value manufacturing sector as we move decisively from assembly into #AdvancedManufacturing”, he added.
