‎New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on February 14, where he will witness an aerial display at the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility and inaugurate multiple infrastructure projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore, according to an official press release issued on Friday.

‎The Prime Minister is scheduled to land at around 10:30 am at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh, where he will witness an aerial display of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters. The ELF is the first such facility in the Northeast and has been designed in coordination with the Indian Air Force to support the landing and take-off of both military and civil aircraft during emergencies.

‎Describing it as a critical asset for the region, the release said the dual-use infrastructure will enable rapid deployment of rescue and relief operations during natural disasters and strategic requirements. The facility is capable of handling fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes maximum take-off weight.

‎At around 1 pm, the Prime Minister will visit the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu across the Brahmaputra, built at a cost of about Rs 3,030 crore. The six-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge connects Guwahati with North Guwahati and is the first extradosed bridge in the Northeast.

‎The bridge is expected to reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati to approximately seven minutes. Given the region’s high seismic activity, it incorporates base isolation technology using friction pendulum bearings. High-performance stay cables have been used to enhance durability, and a Bridge Health Monitoring System has been installed for real-time condition monitoring and early damage detection.

‎At around 1:30 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and flag off various projects at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati. Among them is the National Data Centre for the North Eastern Region at Amingaon in Kamrup district.

‎The state-of-the-art data centre, with a sanctioned load of 8.5 MW and an average rack capacity of 10 kW per rack, will host mission-critical applications of government departments and serve as a disaster recovery centre for other national data centres. The initiative, aligned with the Digital India vision, aims to strengthen the ICT backbone of the Northeast and ensure secure and reliable digital infrastructure for citizen-centric services.

‎The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, a move expected to provide a significant boost to higher and management education in the region.

‎During the visit, the Prime Minister will flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme in four cities: Guwahati (100 buses), Nagpur (50), Bhavnagar (50), and Chandigarh (25).

‎According to the release, the rollout of e-bus operations in these cities is expected to benefit more than 50 lakh citizens by providing clean, affordable, and reliable public transport, contributing to improved urban mobility and quality of life.

‎The visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening connectivity, digital infrastructure, education, and sustainable transport in the North-Eastern Region.
