Globally, COVID-19 has caused approximately 6.9 million deaths, more than double what official numbers show, according to a new analysis by the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington School of Medicine. IHME found that COVID-19 deaths are significantly underreported in almost every country.

The updated analysis shows that the United States has had more COVID-19 deaths to date than any other country, a total of more than 905,000. By region, Latin America and the Caribbean and Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia were hardest hit in terms of total deaths. This figure only includes deaths caused directly by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, not deaths caused by the pandemic’s disruption to health care systems and communities.

Below are the details of the top five countries in the world affect by the COVID pandemic. The deaths, IHME claims are shockingly underreported.

In US, the official deaths reported are 574,043 but IHME reports put the number of deaths at a shocking 905,289. In India the officially reported death at 221,181 but IHME reports indicate three times more deaths at a number of 654,395.

But interestingly this report does not feature the source of the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic nation – China. There is absolutely no report on the actually number of deaths in China. China officially claims 4636 deaths only.

The IHME is an independent health research organization that provides comparable measurement of the world’s health problems and has been cited in the past by the White House and its reports are watched closely by public health officials.

Deaths go unreported as most countries only record those that occur in hospitals or of patients with a confirmed infection, the report shockingly revealed.
