Air Show : IAF aims Limca Book of records

Chennai: Celebrating its 92nd anniversary, the Indian Air Force (IAF), while displaying its full mite, is aiming for an entry into the Limca Book of Records as nearly 15 lakh people are expected to converge on the Marina Beach Front on Sunday to witness the spectacular air show.

A total of 72 aircraft will showcase their might with stunning manouvres on the skies that would include LCA, Sukhois and Rafels in a three hour show in the world second largest beach front.

According to sources th Aircrafts will be originating from Sulur, Thanjavur, Tambaram, Arakkonam, Bengaluru, Converging over the East Coast as teams come towards Marina
for the Airs Show.

It included display by the Suryakiran Aerobatics team, Sarang Helicopter display teams
who would be displaying their skills.

Aircraft include indigenously made Light Combat Aircraft Tejas and Light Combat Helicopter
Prachand, Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MkI, etc.

Last time it was held in September 2003, After 21 years, it is coming back to Chennai.
This time in a biggest way, it said.

The IAF day special celebrations used to be held in Delhi. But for the last two years, for
the public to know the prowess of the IAF, the show has been shifted away from Delhi.

Last year it was held in Prayagraj and the previous year in Chandigarh. This is the third time the IAF Day air show is being held outside Delhi and for the first time in South India, over the skies of Chennai Marina Beach.

The State and Central agencies are making all out efforts for the successful conduct of the
airshow.

The IAF aims at making it a Limca Book of Records with the participation of about 15 lakh people.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to participate in the Air show, which would one
of India’s biggest event to be held in Chennai from October 6 to 8 after a gap of 21 years.

Apart from Mr Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and newly appointed
Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh will participate.

The last time the Air show was held in 2003 in Chennai during the late J Jayalalithaa regime when 13 lakh people turned up at Marina.

An official release issued the IAF will showcase its might in the skies over Marina Beach during the grand air show on October 6 as part of the programmes organised to commemorate its 92nd anniversary.

This year’s event is based on theme “Bhartiya Vayu Sena-Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant), highlighting the lAF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s airspace.

The people of Chennai will witness a thrilling spectacle on the day, with 72 aircraft from the lAF displaying mesmerizing aerobatic manoeuvres and synchronized formation flying.

The air show will feature performances by the lAF’s elite teams Akash Ganga, renowned for their skydiving prowess, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, famed for their close formation aerobatics, and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team, known for their stunning aerial choreography.

Besides these acclaimed teams, lAF will be showcasing flypast and aerial displays by a wide range of aircraft from its inventory, including the nation’s pride, our own indigenously manufactured state-of-the art Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Light Combat Helicopter Prachand and Heritage aircraft like Dakota and Harvard are also likely to take part.

The event promises to be an unforgettable experience for the audience, showcasing not only India’s military aviation excellence, but also the strength and capabilities of lAF, and its role in protecting the nation’s skies.

The air show will also see women officers showcasing their skills both on air and on land.

An inspiring and trailblazing journey that began in 1992 when the Indian Air Force (IAF) created history by becoming the first of three services to open its doors for Women Officers for the first time and later started training them as Fighter Pilots from 2015, is still continuing.

A large number of inspiring Women in Blue will showcase their kills in India’s biggest ever Air Show to be held on October six here after a gap of 23 years.

Ahead of the spectacle, the final and full rehearsal will be held today after two reheasrhals were held.
