Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has locked up the Mantri Square mall after its management failed to clear its outstanding property tax arrears.
The BBMP had directed the management of the mall, which is located in Malleswaram, to clear the tax arrears.
The mall, which owes Rs 51 crore in tax dues to BBMP, was locked on Wednesday. Despite several notices by the revenue department of the BBMP, the mall management did not pay the tax arrears.
Finally, the BBMP officials visited the mall locked up its main gates and pasted a notice, which read that the property will be locked until the tax arrears are cleared.
Reacting to this development, the advocate for the mall management told a section of the media that despite the court orders in favour of the tenants, the BBMP has locked the property, which is wrong. “We will sort out the problem by showing the court order. There will not be any problems for us,” he said.
