Bihar would have developed more had special status been granted: Nitish

Patna: Appealing to the people to maintain communal harmony and brotherhood, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday outlined his government’s achievements saying that the state would have registered more development had special status been granted to it.

While hoisting the Tri-colour on the occasion of the 77th Independence day at the historic Gandhi Maidan here, Kumar said he initiated the development activities in Bihar after the centre did not grant the special state category to it.

Equal emphasis has been given to every section of the society in the development process, said Kumar adding that special attention was accorded to improving Madarsas which have been strengthened. He said the salary of Madarsa teachers has been made at par with the teachers of government schools.

The land related to Sunni and Shia Waquf boards was also being developed by taking up various construction activities including community halls, market complexes and others.

The CM said the financial assistance being provided to the women under Muslim Women Abandonment Plan has been enhanced to Rs 25000 from Rs 10,000 and as of now 14967 Muslim women have been provided with the financial assistance under the scheme.

Kumar said his government has launched a temple boundary construction scheme to construct boundary walls all around the temples for providing safety and protect them from any untoward activities. Earlier the boundaries were being constructed around the temples more than 60 years old but it has been decided to construct boundaries around all temples registered under the Dharmik Nyaas Parishad.

Expressing his concern over the condition of the media, Kumar, without, mentioning the union government, said the entire media has been has been Hijacked and is being used as a campaign tool. He said the media at present has not been given a free hand and was bound to publish as per the dictate. Kumar said that after 2024 the media will become free and will publish as per its choice.
