Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet departed here on Thursday morning for New York, the United States, to attend the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), a spokesman said.

Hun Manet will address the UNGA on Friday (New York time), according to an official schedule.

“His speech will focus on three key dimensions, namely the global context, Cambodia’s socio-economic progress, and Cambodia’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Transformative Actions,” Meas Sophorn, head of the prime minister’s spokesperson unit, told reporters before departure.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, the Cambodian leader will engage in bilateral meetings with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and various foreign dignitaries during his stay in New York, he added.

Hun Manet will return to the country on Sept. 25, Sophorn said.

The 78th UNGA session is scheduled to run on Sept. 19-26, under the theme “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for All.”
