Kolkata: The CBI on Saturday registered an FIR in connection with the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during the tenure of Ex-principal Dr Sandip Ghosh.
The anti-corruption wing of the CBI filed the FIR after the Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the federal agency to probe the alleged financial irregularities charges allegedly committed by Dr Sandip Ghosh after hospital’s former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali filed a petition before the single bench of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj.
The Central Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over the rape and murder case on August 14 following a Division bench Order headed by Chief Justice TS Shivagnanan, today began polygraph tests on four medics after the Sealdah court approved the agency’s prayer for such test on 7 suspects.
They are prime suspect Sanjay Roy, former principal Sandip Ghosh, four junior doctors and a civic volunteer Sourav Bhattacharya.
The youth and students wings today jointly paraded in the city from College Square to Lalbazar to protest the alleged police harassment on the Left leaders and seeking justice for the 31-year-old medic who was raped and murdered in the hospital premises on August 9.
The protesters were prevented from going close to Kolkata Police headquarters and were stopped 200 mts away and allowed 7 representatives to get in to call on the police officials. Some 30 advocates were also there to assist the delegation led by youth wing president Meenakhi Mukherjee. Defying rain and knee deep water on the BB Ganguly Street, the protesters blocked the traffic and demanded resignation of Health Minister and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the Home Minister, with slogans Dafa Ek Dabi Ek.
The Left leaders alleged the police in the city and districts have been sending notices to their activists accusing them of their involvement in the vandalism at the RG Kar Hospital on eve of Independence Day.
They said the police cannot stop their movement until there was justice for the murdered medic. “Why are the Kolkata Police not assisting the CBI to crack down on the crime as the they had handled the first five days of the horror crime,” a protesting woman said.
Meanwhile, fresh talks between RG Kar Hospital junior medics and state health secretariat headed by special secretary Anurudha Neogy failed to end the current agitation, which entered 16th day today.
The medics said they would not attend the OPDs until they find a visible outcome of the justice of the murdered medic and safety at the working place.
