Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu): Referring to the recent heavy rains and floods that ravaged the Southern districts of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the Central government stands with the people of Tamil Nadu in this time of crisis and providing every possible support to the state government.

Speaking after inaugurating the new terminal building at Tiruchirapalli International Airport, Modi said the last few weeks of 2023 were difficult for many people in Tamil Nadu. We lost many of our fellow citizens due to heavy rains. There has also been significant loss of property.

I was deeply moved by the condition of the affected people. The Central Government stands with the people of Tamil Nadu in this time of crisis.

We are providing every possible support to the State government, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin appealed to the PM to immediately release substantial funds from the NDRF for relief and restoration works in the flood affected Chennai and Southern districts and declare Tamil Nadu floods as a national disaster.

“The demand of Tamil Nadu is not a political slogan, but for the people,” he said and added the responsibility of the State government is to provide essential requirements, including education and medicine for the people.

Mr.Stalin also requested the PM to start direct flight services between Chennai-Penang and Chennai-Tokyo.
