Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed concerned officials to prepare an urgent panchanama of the damage in the areas ravaged by torrential rains and submit a proposal as soon as possible to the government.
Shinde on Sunday evening contacted the Chief Secretary, the Relief and Rehabilitation Department, and the Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors of the areas hit by heavy rains and inquired about the present flood situation.
Due to heavy rainfall, crops in many districts, including Sangrampur, Jalgaon Jamod in Buldhana district, Yavatmal, and Nanded district, have gone under water.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also directed to provide all necessary facilities be provided to the citizens of the areas affected by heavy rains.
Life has been disrupted due to the flood, and the villagers have been shifted to safer places by the local administration.
The Chief Minister has also given instructions to make a Panchnama of the damage to the houses of such local villagers.
Due to torrential rains in Vidarbha, life has been disrupted at various places for the last couple of days.
Due to heavy rainfall in Yavatmal and adjoining districts, the release of water from the Upper Wardha and Gosiehurd dams was started, causing the River Wardha to flood yesterday.
Traffic on the state highway connecting Chandrapur and Telangana has been closed as the bridge over this river has gone under water.
The grocery and grain wholesale market in the central part of Akola city has been shifted to the national highway.
The traders and the administration have predicted that about 150 shops in this market have been damaged by rainwater.
In Kolhapur district, too, due to heavy rains, six state roads and 16 district roads have been closed due to rain, and citizens have been requested to use alternative routes.
State Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan, who visited rain affected areas in Nanded district, has assured that a policy decision will be taken soon in the current session of the Legislature to help the affected farmers.
Mahajan visited and inspected various villages affected by heavy rainfall in the Biloli, Degalur, and Mukhed areas of Nanded district.
Mahajan also promised to list the villages whose roads are closed due to floodwater every year and give priority consideration to the construction of new bridges there.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted rain to occur at most places in Konkan and Vidarbha and at many places in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Marathwada in the next two days and expressed the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions.
