Agartala: Expressing concern over the Tripura government’s functioning, the opposition CPI-M has alleged that people in rural areas are suffering because of lack of job opportunities while the law and order situation is now “very alarming”.

State CPI-M Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said the party had a detailed discussion on the present situation in Tripura and decided to organise two-week long protest rallies and meetings against the state government from November 20.

He stated the condition of people living in the hills was also deteriorating as work under MGNREGA and different schemes of the departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, and Fisheries has almost been scrapped over the years under the BJP-led government. While poor people have been struggling for survival, ministers, MLAs, and leaders of the ruling BJP are spending public funds on their luxury, Chaudhury stated.

He alleged that in the last seven months of the second BJP-IPFT government, common people, including the tribals, have been denied the basic amenities. The villagers only get a few man-days under MGNREGA, and the lion’s share of wages are being taken away by a few leaders of the BJP, and a large section of the rural population is being deprived of its legitimate rights.

Chaudhury also demanded village committee elections in tribal autonomous district council areas of the state at the earliest to ensure the development of tribal areas. Chaudhury also slammed TIPRA Motha for making “fake promises” and claimed that more and more youth are deserting the outfit.
