Madgaon: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Friday said that the intranet facility gifted to Goa as Pilot Project by then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his tenure as Chief Minister was the way forward for online and distance education in Goa.

In a statement, he urged the Chief Minister to follow the guidelines of Ministry of Human Resource and immediately issue orders advising all teachers to work from home during this Covid Pandemic.

He said it was high time that government geared up efforts to streamline the online education facility in Goa.

Kamat demanded government must announce a scheme to provide gadgets to students as well as teachers for facilitating online education.

The government must immediately come out with action plan on syllabus, he said and questioned why government had still not announced the proposals made by Board of Study on curtailing syllabus for the academic year.

“I had even conducted online meetings of various government officials of various talukas sitting at my office,” Kamat recalled.

The former Chief Minister said the government should network with the local cable operators through which the intranet facility could reach every household in remotest area of Goa.”The intranet facility is more effective as the signals are transmitted through optic fibre cables which are layed underground. There are hardly any chances of drop in signals and transmission quality loss,” he claimed.
