Dharamshala: A senior Congress leader and MLA from Bhatiyat Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Thursday elected as speaker of Himachal Pradesh assembly.
Chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said the member of the assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania be chosen the speaker of the assembly and the leader of opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur seconded the proposal .
Kuldeep Singh Pathania was elected as the 16th speaker of Himachal Pradesh assembly with a voice vote.
Deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri presented another proposal to choose Kuldeep Singh Pathania as the speaker of the assembly and this proposal was seconded by Harishardan. The second proposal was put forth by Congress MLA Daniram Shandel and the third proposal was presented by Vipin Singh Parmar and was seconded by former speaker.
Kuldeep Singh Pathania was born on September 17, 1957. He is a Law graduate and was elected as an MLA in 1985 and was youngest MLA that time. He was given Best Parliamentarian award in 1994.
He started his political carrier as a youth Congress leader and got the seat of the speaker after his political carrier of 37 years.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu greeted the newly elected speaker and suggested him that he should give time judiciously to the members of the treasury and opposition that too on the basis of argument.
Leader of the opposition, Jairam Thakur greeted the speaker and suggested the speaker to run the House peacefully and nicely as per the past traditions and the opposition party BJP will render all help to run the House in a comfortable manner.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri congratulated the speaker and said Kuldeep Singh Pathania, a fifth time MLA and is an efficient and good administrator and a capable personality. He said the assembly is expecting that he will do justice with both the treasury and opposition benches.
Former speaker Vipin Singh Parmar congratulated the speaker Pathania and assured full support to him in dealing with the assembly activities.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania thanked the members and assured that he would deal all the issues judiciously which will be in the interests of the state. He said all the members will get time to speak from both sides over the issues of the state and developmental issues. He said he became the member of the 6th assembly at the age of 28 and now I am a fifth time MLA and he thanked the people of his constituency and family and supporters and also this august assembly for electing him as speaker today.
