Manipur Congress celebrates comfortable lead

Imphal: Congress workers started celebration across Manipur as both their candidates were way ahead with huge margins from both Lok Sabha seats in the Northeastern state that had faced sectarian violence for months ahead of the polls.

Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of the Congress was leading by 92,985 votes from his nearest rival Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh of BJP in Inner while in Outer Manipur, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur of Indian National Congress was leading from Kachui Timothy Zimik of Naga Peoples Front by 64,386 votes.

Counting may be completed soon.

Congress leaders and workers were preparing for celebrations at the head office. Large numbers of supporters wave Congress flags on the streets. Both the seats were earlier held by BJP and NPF.
